Layers of Color Cake Decorating Party! ;)

Welcome to the

Layers of Color

Cake Decorating Party!

If you've made it over her from Iwona's Blog, you're in the right place!  If not, make sure you don't miss out on all the "deliciousness" and head on over to Layers of Color to start at the beginning.  :)

We have a line-up of fantastic crafting chefs that will inspire you to get into your creative kitchens and whip up some delicious artwork!  Come whet your appetite with our creative paper cake slice boxes that are marvelously decorated with Layers of Color.  I wanted my cake slice to have a 'lid" so I went and got my template from HERE. The top part of my "slice" pulls right off!  I plan on filling it with some yummies and giving this slice to someone special for their birthday!  :)

This is truly how you can have your cake and eat it too! Enjoy a tasty cake fresh from the oven,
while being creative with Layers of Color, pretty papers, laces, flowers, and even jewelry!

I stenciled "Delicious Dots" stencil in Memento ink Desert Sand to give the "cake" part of my slice some delicious texture!  For the icing on the side edge of my slice I used Inkssentials Enamel Accents in white (got the black and white one in my prize box from winning the WCMD contest!).  The white border is a Martha Stewart border punch.

In this up close shot, you see how I used the "Floweret" cling stamp and one of the jewels from "Granny's Jewelry" clear art stamp set to create the top border of my cake slice.  I colored both images using my Copic markers.

Here is the back shot of my cake slice.   I added the pearls to give my cake an elegant flair.  :)

My lovely bottom border is a mix of the "Floweret" cling stamp, three flowers and some leaves from "Flowering Gems" clear art stamp set, and the adorable strawberry from "Nature Walk" clear art stamp set.

Here is the view from the top!  :)  "Flowering Gems" clear art stamp set and "Nature Walk" clear art stamp set were used to create this border.

Tasty, isn't it? Let's have some more!...You're invited to feast your eyes on the Layers of Color Design Team and Guest Designer's Cake Party treats!  Following me is my sweet friend, Jennie Harper!

And here is the list of all the participants in case you loose your way hopping!  ;)

PaperCrafts Magazine World Card Making Day Winner: ME!!!

Well, I think many of you might know my fun news already about being one of the winners of the World Card Making Day contest that PaperCrafts magazine put on back in October-ish but I wanted to make my "official announcement" here on my blog:

I won!  In two categories!!!!  SO fun!

Go out and get yourself the latest PC issue! This one:

On page 77, you'll see my first card:
You can find this lovely lady right here at Gina K Designs!  She is part of the "Sew Pretty" set that I just adore and can't get enough of!  :)  Of course, any good card I make usually includes one or more dies from Spellbinders!  On this card I used their oval and scalloped oval dies to showcase the lovely lady.  :)

On page 79, you'll see my second winning card:
I was thrilled to use Layers of Color's "Starflower Frame" stamp as my focal point and Gina K Design's thank you sentiment from her "Spring Mix" stamp set!  On this card I also used October Afternoon DP and Spellbinders Labels Sixteen.  :)

Thanks so much for sharing in my excitement!  It was hard keeping quiet as I've known since November!  Much love to ya,

Janice  :)

Gina K Design's February Preview- Day Four!

Welcome back, everyone!
Today is our last preview day for February and we are so excited for the FULL RELEASE tonight over at StampTV!  Make sure you come to the "party" (starts at 7pm CST) and check out all the sets in their full glory!  ;)

Today we get to preview the "Free with Three" stamp set that Gina has made called, "Framed Greetings."  It is so very elegant and comes with four "go to" sentiments.

Here is what I came up with:
I used my Copic markers to color the frame to match the Webster's Pages DP.  The plants on the bottom right  and right side of the card are straight from Theresa Momber's "Little Critters" stamp set previewed on Tuesday.

What a joy it has been reading everyone's comments!  I read everyone one and love them all!  Feel free to ask me questions on how I did something--I'd be happy to let you know!

    Case Study Challenge

This week the Case Study Challenge is being sponsored by Layers of Color and I am delighted to be one of the Guest Designers. There is also some extra inspiration to be had with the combination from the The Play Date Cafe.

This month's Muse is Eva Dobilas and this week we are casing her gorgeous card that you can see here.

Here is my take on it:
The LOC Designers are using the Granny's Jewelry art stamp set and Delicious Dots art stencil that Laura of Layers of Color is kindly donating as this week’s prize.  We are hoping to give you some inspiration for these delish products.

Shown here is the gorgeous fly from Granny's Jewelry completely "bling-ed" out!!!  The thank you sentiment came from "Sent with Love."

Here you can see where I stenciled "Delicious Dots" using Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Antique Linen--don't you you adore those dots?!  SO elegant.  Also, hidden in amongst the flower scene are those two gorgeous flowers I made using the flower image from Granny's Jewelry.  I stamped them in Stampin Up! "Cherry Cobbler" then cut them out and added the pearls.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

For more inspiration, make sure you visit the Case Study - we would love to see you play long in this week’s challenge--you might just win the lovely stamp set and stencil I used!

    Blessings,
    Janice :)

Gina K Design's February Preview- Day Three!

Welcome back to Gina K Design's February Preview--Day three!!!  :)  Hope you've enjoyed the previews so far!  These are just such fun sets and todays previews will surely not disappoint!  First off, is a knock-out Easter set by Nina Brackett called, "Christ is Risen."  Here is my preview card:

Didn't I say "knock-out Easter set"?  Oh, yes I did and it SOOOOOO is!!!!  This gorgeous image shows of the style of this set perfectly---you are going to love it!  I basically stamped the image a few times on a white card base, then stamped, colored and cut out a full image, then adhered it to the page using pop dots.  Don't you just love it?  SO fun!!!

Alright, next up is one by Tami Mayberry that I think will be perfect for all you moms of teens out there or anyone who loves to ROCK!!!  ;)  Here is my preview for "Live Life Loud":
Pretty cool, huh?!  And there are quite a few more "rocking" images in this set!

Alright, on to more inspiration from the rest of the Design Team!

Gina K Design's February Preview- Day Two!

Welcome to Gina K Design's February Previews--Day Two!  Today I will be previewing two sets, the first one is called "Little Critters" by Theresa Momber and it is just ADORABLE!!!  I love all the fun images in this set.  I chose to preview this fabulous mushroom scene.  I just love red and white mushrooms (only to look at, of course!) so I decided to color these little guys accordingly.  :)
I used Copic markers to color the image and then added the white dotes with a gel pen.  This set also comes with some super adorable sentiments, too!  The paper line I used is Cosmo Cricket "Farmers Market."

Up next is, "Chocolate Bunnies" by Asela Hopkins.  This set is adorable, too!!!  It has four different chocolate bunny images ranging from these little traditional guys on my card to a super cutesy bunny that would be just so fun to use on a card.  This set also has a great selection of sentiments--you will see some  really "fun" ones in this set.  I chose to use the super sweet "Some Bunny Love You" sentiment on this card.
I used Copic markers to color these also and used Basic Grays "Infuse" DP.  The gorgeous label is Spellbinders Labels Nine.

Alight, I hope you liked my cards and have a whetted appetite for more!  Go check out the other DT members blogs for so much more!

Gina K Design's February Preview- Day One!

    Happy Valentine's Day !

Welcome to Gina K Design's February Release previews!!!  Today I have two versatile sets to preview, both of them illustrated by Melanie Muenchinger!  My first card previews one of the many floral images in this set that coordinates with so many of her floral sets, it's called "Spring Basket".

I just love all of Melanie's sets, her floral ones being some of my favorites!

The second set being previewed today is called, "Basket Blessings" and it is simply a-do-ra-ble!  Here is a sneak peak at one of the images and one of the super fun sentiments in this set:
Don't you just adore those bunnies?!?!  And the sentiment?!  I kept my card SUPER clean and simple, thinking the cute bunnies just steal the show!  I simply added the ribbon and colored the bunnies with Copic markers.  :)

Now, head on over to the rest of our design team for more wonderful inspiration:

Oh, the stories we have to tell...

I'm sorry, I just have to share!  LOL!  I am smiling now just thinking about what I was told when I came home this afternoon from dropping off a cake.

Well, I get home from delivering a cake (more info on that later!) to be told by the little boy of the family we are living with the "funniest thing", "Elijah was jumping on the trampoline naked!"  Me--"WHAT???"  Completely at a loss as to how in the world this might have happened and starting to laugh as I imagined my scrawny little four year old jumping on the trampoline in his birthday suit.  I immediately headed inside to get the full story from my husband.

Apparently, shortly after being put down for a nap (according to my little guy) he had to go potty.  He naps in our bedroom since his little brother naps in their room and naps don't usually happen if they are in there together.  Anyway, there is a bathroom in our room so he went without Luke knowing.  Well, he apparently had a hard time pulling his pants up.

Now, I don't know how he went from having a hard time pulling his pants up to thinking it would be great to go outside and jump on the trampoline (without telling anyone--aaaaccckkk!)  but that is exactly what happened.  Our bedroom has an outside door that leads to a shared driveway with our neighbors (with whom we are so thankful for as they let our kids play on their trampoline and all their outdoor play equipment).  The trampoline and playscape are just seconds away from that door.

SOOOO, since he couldn't get his pants back on, he decided to just go jump on the trampoline.........in his birthday suit.  He's four.  Just turned.  Oh, Lordy!  LOL!  Normally, I either take a nap with him or am in the room working at my scrap table.  Today, I had to deliver a cake during that time so I wasn't there.

Apparently, a neighborhood boy saw him from across the backyard (there is a low fence on one side) and came running to our door.  He was out of breath (or just shocked) but this was what he said, "Boy...naked......jumping on trampoline!"  LOL!!!

Luke proceeds to check in on Elijah, and low and behold he is not in bed.  He goes out the bedroom door and, sure enough, there is carefree Elijah, happily jumping on the trampoline, in nothing but his birthday suit--by himself, nobody around (thank God!).

We now plan on installing a lock that he can't reach.  :)

    Happy Birthday Gina K!!

    Happy Birthday, Gina!!!

Welcome to Gina K's virtual Birthday Party!!!!

Today we are celebrating the beautiful and super talented Gina Krupsky!  Us design team gals wanted to have a celebration of sorts in her honor so we've came up with a special birthday hop!  Jennie, Nina, and Tami weren't able to join in but wanted to send their birthday wishes too!  We decided to throw Gina a surprise "virtual party" with a twist! Every person on the hop has "brought" something for the party.  If you've come from Cammie's blog, you are in the right place and you've received your invitation to the party!

My job was to provide Gina's special birthday outfit!  Now, how could I not use the super sassy lady from Asela Hopkin's stamp set  "Sew Pretty ?!"  I went to it right away and came up with this fun and retro look for Gina--I'm thinking this blue looks gorgeous on Gina!  I added some silver beads and even a little bit of lace!  :)  I also used Nina Brackett's doily from "Nana's Needlework" and Melanie Muenchinger's happy birthday sentiment from her "Candles on your cake" stamp set.

Gina, you are loved and appreciated!  I pray this year will be the best year of your life in every way!

Now, head on over to Carolina's blog to find out the location of the party!!!  :)

Want a party favor???  ;) Make sure those of you visiting stop by and leave Gina some love on her birthday--two lucky winners will received a FREE Gina K Designs stamp set!!

Thanks so much for stopping by,
    Janice :)

    Stamping on a CAKE? Yes!

I recently had the opportunity to make a cake for a dear, dear friend's baby shower.  When I was asked to make the cake, I was simply told to look at a picture of the baby bedding for the colors.  I had free reign as far as design went  (my favorite type of cake to make!).  Well, as soon as I saw the bedding I knew exactly what I wanted to do.  Here is a pic of the bedding:

Now, I was limited in size as there were about 35 expected attendants, so I chose to make a six inch on top of an eight inch--a relatively small cake but perfect for this size party.   I immediately thought of two stamps that would be just perfect to recreate the look of this bedding.  I decided to use Nina Brackett's doily from her "Nana's Needlework" Gina K Designs stamp set, and her damask image from her gorgeous "Grand Damask" Gina K Designs stamp set.

Here is what I came up with:
     So, what do you think?

Look at that gorgeous damask image!!!  Nina is just so talented.  :)  Looks just as good on a cake as it does on paper!  LOL!

I had to modify the doily stamp as the fine lines didn't show up as well and this design matched better with the bedding but the shape and outer two layers came straight from Nina's doily stamp!  :)

Here are a couple pics of how I did it:
Once the cake has been iced in a buttercream icing recipe that "sets", you can then simply press the stamp onto the icing firmly making sure you press on all sides and middle to get the best impression.

Then I simply pipe over the impression with icing.  I used Wilton round tip number 3.

Well, there you have it!  Stamping on cakes, the possibilities are endless!  ;)

Thanks for taking a look! Blessings,
    Janice

Alright, if you scrolled down through all of this you are a trooper and are now filled with much inspiration!

I leave you with a few stories and words that marked my CHA experience:

    VIP shrimp
My fun lovely, southern friend Jennie Harper and I were headed up in the elevator one day when it stopped at a service floor and a waitress carrying a tray of delicious looking shrimp stepped in.  She asked us if we wanted one and just as we were saying, "Sure!", she said, "You're going up right?"  Our faces fell and we retrieved our stretched out arms just before we could lay our hands on those delectable-looking shrimp saying, "Noooooooooo."  The waitress just smiled as she stepped back from us and exited the elevator the next floor up.  As the elevator door opened we could hear dance music blaring--we quickly realized this VIP shrimp was not for us!  LOL!

You know you're at CHA when:
-You leave with more giveaway bags then you know what to do with
-You are wearing multiple dog tag type necklaces that make you jingle all the way
-You are also wearing quite a collection of brightly colored paper and fabric flowers
-People look at your name badge first, then you

    Words/Phrases heard
"Flocking Pastor" (that would be yours truly)--Nina Brackett
    "Milkdrops"--Nina Brackett (can't believe I just wrote that!!!!LOL!)
"Don't count your chickens before they hatch." --Jennie Harper
"When two vowels go a'walkin', the first one does the talking"--Yours truly

I know there were quite a few others so if you ladies remember them, let me know and I'll update my list!  :)

That's all for now folks!  Stay tuned for my regularly scheduled crafts starting back up soon!

    Blessings, Janice
